Short training

Cutlery : No entry level required. Aimed at beginners or people who want to be initiated into new skills. You will be taught how make a knife : forge the blade, use thermic treatments, how to make the handle.

Fee : 450 euros incl taxe

Wrought-iron work : No entry level required. Aimed at beginners or people who want to be initiated into new skills.You can choose between ::

  1. - Wrought-iron work : forging a candlestick, a knocker or a dragon head....
  2. -Tool-making : forging a tongs

One-week training course:

No entry level required. Aimed at beginners or people who want to be initiated into new skills.

You can choose between ::

  1. - Cutlery : improving your knowledge and skills in forging techniques and in the use of thermic treatments. Usually you can make two knives during the week.
  2. - Wrought-iron : for example forging a companion set, animal or flower sculptures.
  3. - Tools-making : making forging tools: tongs, chisels,....

fee 1225 euros for vocational training



Six-week training course :

The six weeks (210 hours) can be done separately
No academic qualification is required but the applicant is interviewed so as to assess his motivation and the feasibility of his project.



Unit 1 :Initiation , first contact with the smithy. Safety rules, tools, the different kinds of fuel : gaz, coal : advantages and drawbacks.
Mastering the fire. the materials : the different kinds of steel. Thermic treatments. Practical approach: forging various objects.

Unit 2 : Practice level1 / tool-making: Tongs, chisel...

Unit 3 : Practice level 2 /welding. Fire, the essential element welding. Learning about welding. Practicing different kinds of welding.

Unit 4 : Practice level 3 / Damascus. The different kinds of steel used. Welding Damascus. Forging .

Unit 5 : Practice level 4 /Making knives in damascus

Unit 6 : folding knife (in the piemontese fashion) or 2 nails. Getting to know about various types of folding knives and their mechanisms.

Or

Unit 3 : Bulbous holes, riveting, making a gate or lampstand.

Unit 4 : Practice level 3 / forging from the trainee's plan and combining various iron-work skills.

Unit 5 : Practce level 4 / forging more sophisticated pieces

Unit 6 : Practice level 5 / forging sculptures

Fee : 6510 € for 210 hours (six weeks).
